NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use and Maintenance of Brushcutters & Trimmers (14th, 15th & 17th April)
Tuesday the 14th April (confidence buidling day), Wednesday the 15th April (compulsary training) and Friday the 17th April (assessment test allowing a 2 hour slot)
Gain the essential licence required to safely operate brushcutters and strimmers in professional and public settings.
The NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use and Maintenance of Brushcutters and Trimmers is a nationally recognised qualification designed for anyone working in horticulture, agriculture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, or managing public green spaces.
This course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate both nylon cord strimmers and metal blade brushcutters, used for cutting long grass, dense vegetation, and heavy foliage.
This qualification is ideal for:
- Gardeners and landscapers
- Farmers and estate workers
- Grounds maintenance teams
- Park and countryside rangers
- Volunteers working in community gardens or public green spaces
- Anyone starting a career in the land-based industry
During the training you will learn how to:
- Carry out daily safety checks and maintenance

- Safely operate nylon line trimmers and brushcutters
- Select appropriate cutting heads and equipment
- Work safely in professional or public environments
- Follow correct health and safety procedures
Successful candidates will gain the NPTC licence required to operate this machinery safely and legally in a professional working environment.
Course Structure
The course runs across three days:
Confidence Building Training Day

A practical day designed to build confidence with the machinery and develop practical skills before the qualification training.
Main Training Day

15th April
Full practical training covering operation, safety, and maintenance in preparation for the NPTC assessment.
Independent Assessment

17th April
Assessment carried out by an independent NPTC assessor.
The assessment normally takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
Your individual assessment time will be confirmed following the training day.
Course Fees
There are two ways to attend this course:
Funded Place (Free of Charge)
Learners who attend the Confidence Building Training Day on 14th April may attend the full course free of charge, subject to availability.
These places are prioritised for Roots to Fruit volunteers and community participants and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Standard Course Fee β Β£250
If you are attending from a profit-making organisation, or if you would prefer to attend only the main training day, the course fee is Β£250 per person.
To ensure fair access, only one funded place per organisation can be allocated at a time.

Monday the 20th April (confidence buidling day), Tuesday the 21st April (compulsary training) and Friday the 24th April (assessment test allowing a 2 hour slot)
Learn how to safely operate and maintain professional lawnmowers while developing the skills needed to mow lawns to a high professional standard.
The NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use and Maintenance of Pedestrian-Controlled Lawnmowers is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone working in horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, parks, estates, or community green spaces.
This course focuses on the safe operation, maintenance, and correct mowing techniques required when using pedestrian lawnmowers in a professional environment.
During the course you will learn how to:
- Carry out pre-use safety checks
- Identify common faults and mechanical problems
- Maintain a lawnmower in safe working condition
- Use the mower safely and efficiently
- Apply professional mowing techniques
- Achieve a clean, even finish to a professional standard
- Follow correct health and safety procedures
Successful candidates will gain the NPTC Level 2 qualification required for the professional use of pedestrian-controlled lawnmowers.

Confidence Building Day

This additional training day is designed to help build confidence with the equipment and provide extra practice before the main training.
This day is compulsory for learners attending the course free of charge.
Main Training Day

Full practical training covering safe operation, maintenance, mowing techniques, and preparation for assessment.
Independent Assessment

24th April
The assessment is carried out by an independent NPTC assessor and normally takes around 90 minutes per candidate.
Your individual assessment time will be confirmed following the training.

- Volunteers who have contributed significant time to Roots to Fruit Midlands Ltd
- Individuals working within not-for-profit organisations
These places are offered first to our regular volunteers on a first-come basis.
